Metro Areas and Regions

Each metro area under this heading may contain sites in topical sub-categories as well as links to other geographic categories. As used here, each metro area is defined by its included counties, a way of grouping the state's counties into sub-state areas. Agreement with metro area definitions supplied by the U.S. Census Bureau is neither implied nor intended.

Most sites should be submitted to a locality. Sites which may be listed at metro level include:

Businesses with offices or locations in multiple counties spanning the metro area.
Clubs or associations drawing members from the entire metro.
Governmental, scientific or environmental sites concerned with a multi-county area.

Albany Metro

This category covers sites pertaining to the region of Southwest Georgia.

All sites must comply with ODP guidelines.

Athens Metro

Consists of the counties of Clarke, Oconee, Madison and Oglethrope per US Census.

Atlanta Metro

Geographic categories like this one contain sites in topical sub-categories as well as links to other geographic categories. As used here, this metro area is defined as the area included in the definitions supplied by the U.S. Census Bureau.

Most sites should be submitted to a locality. Sites which may be listed at metro level include:

Businesses with offices or locations in multiple counties spanning the metro area.
Clubs or associations drawing members from the entire metro.
Governmental, scientific or environmental sites concerned with a multi-county area.
Certain types of "come to you" service providers.

This category covers sites pertaining to the region of East Georgia.

All sites must comply with ODP guidelines.

Coastal Georgia

This region encompasses nine coastal counties: Bryan, Bulloch, Camden, Chatham, Effingham, Glynn, Liberty, Long and McIntosh.

Most sites should be submitted to a locality. Sites which may be listed at region level include:

Businesses with offices or locations in multiple counties in this region.
Clubs or associations drawing members from the entire region.
Governmental, scientific, historic or environmental sites concerned with a multi-county area.

Columbus Metro

This category covers sites pertaining to the region of West Georgia.

All sites must comply with ODP guidelines.

Macon Metro

This category covers sites pertaining the region of Middle Georgia.

All sites must comply with ODP guidelines.

North Georgia Mountains

The North Georgia region is the northern most rural region of the state that is roughly defined as the area covered by the Chattahoochee National Forest.

Sites submitted/listed in this category must primarily focus on this area, but may include surrounding communities.

Sites focusing on north Georgia communities in the Atlanta, Chattanooga, TN, or Greenville-Spartanburg, SC metro areas should be submitted to these categories.

Savannah Metro

This category covers sites pertaining to the region of Coastal Georgia.

Regions or Equivalent categories at the state or country level should include: Sites about the region as a whole. Sites for entities whose operational area is specifically limited to the Region. If a site for an entity has a "brick and mortar" address and explicitly covers the Region, these guidelines will help you decide where to appropriately list the site.
