The St. Cloud Metropolitan Statistical Area comprises two counties: Benton and Stearns.

When reading and evaluating some articles and statistics about MSAs in Minnesota, it is important to know that Sherburne County had been included in the St. Cloud MSA since 1970, but was assigned to the Minneapolis-St. Paul MSA instead intercensally, that is, after 1990, between official counts by the U.S. Census Bureau.
