Burning Man is an annual festival held in the high desert wilderness of northern Nevada. Each year around Labor Day, thousands of artists, performers and free spirits converge for a week-long celebration that culminates in the ritual burning of an enormous human effigy. Participants build a temporary community in the Black Rock Desert, and call it Black Rock City. The event has also been described as: "a gathering of people doing weird stuff in the desert".
This category is for sites that focus specifically on Burning Man. If the site has a specific focus, please submit it to one of the Burning Man subcategories.
The art that Burning Man participants create is a central part of the event. Some works are permanent or semi-permanent, and go on to find new homes after the event. Some exist only briefly, and are burned with the Man. Some works are performances, such as the yearly Opera.
This category is for sites that focus specifically on Burning Man art. If your site has a broader focus, please submit it to one of the other Burning Man subcategories.
There are groups inspired by Burning Man in other parts of the world. They get together to continue the community at other times of the year.
Burning Man is full of amazing sights. Some like to record these sights using photography, video, or other means. There is some debate about whether this constitutes "participating" or "spectating", and Black Rock City does not look kindly upon the latter. Those that record the images of Burning Man may do it to share their experiences, to keep a record for posterity, or as their contribution to the community. Others do it for the souvenir value. Still others try to get as many nekkid chick images as they can manage. These last may find a better home in Adult/Image_Galleries.
Please submit sites with general collections of Burning Man images (photographic, video or other types) to this category. Images may include captions, commentary, a facility to be sent as electronic greeting cards, or (although this is not encouraged) purchasing information.

If your site is more of a personal account with images used to illustrate, please submit it instead to Personal Accounts.

If your site relates to a specific theme camp or village, please submit it instead to Theme Camps and Villages.

If your site focuses on artwork, either generally or on a specific piece, please submit it instead to Art Installations.

As Burning Man grows, it attracts more attention from the world's media. Many journalists attend the event and turn their experiences into news articles.
Please submit only sites of organizations directly related to Burning Man and its regional offshoots. Sites related to the regional events and gatherings themselves should be submitted to the "Gatherings" category.
Some who attend Burning Man feel compelled to record their personal experience of the event, in words, pictures, and other media.
Nevada's Black Rock Desert is a harsh environment. You need to be well prepared to survive and be (relatively) comfortable. Advice on what to bring, what to wear, how to build shelters and shade structures, and other practicalities, can be found in this category.
Often, a group of like-minded individuals will camp together at Burning Man, sharing facilities, building communal structures and making a joint contribution of some sort to the Black Rock community. These groups are called Theme Camps. When a bunch of like-minded Theme Camps join together, it's called a Village.
