[Xenarthra] Anteaters, Sloths, Armadillos . Teeth are absent or rudimentary.
The three-toed sloths are the only members of the Bradypus genus and the Bradypodidae family.
The Dasypodidae or armadillos are the only surviving family in the order Cingulata, part of the superorder Xenarthra. The word armadillo is Spanish for "little armored one". There are approximately 10 genera and around 20 species of armadillo.
Megalonychidae, or two-toed sloths, are a family in the order Xenarthra. There is a single genus in the family and just two species, Choloepus didactylus and Choloepus hoffmanni.
Myrmecophagidae, or anteaters, are native to Central and South America. There are 2 genera and 3 species in the family.
