Friedrich August von Hayek (May 8, 1899 - March 23, 1992) was an economist of the Austrian School noted for his defense of free-market capitalism against a rising tide of socialism thought in the mid-20th century. He also made important contributions to the fields of jurisprudence and cognitive science. Henry Hazlitt (November 28, 1894 - July 8, 1993) was a libertarian philosopher, economist and journalist for The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times and Newsweek, among other publications. He was credited with bringing Austrian economics to an English speaking audience.
Israel Meir Kirzner (Yisroel Mayer Kirzner) (born February 13, 1930) is a leading economist in the Austrian School and an Orthodox Rabbi.
Ludwig Lachmann (1906 - 1990) a German economist who was an important contributor to the Austrian School whose "subjective fundamentalism" was highly influential upon the later "American branch" of the Austrian School.
Carl Menger was the founder, with Principles of Economics, of the Austrian School. He was also the tutor of Archduke Rudolf von Hapsburg, the Crown Prince of Austria.
Ludwig von Mises was one of the "third generation" of Austrian School economists (along with Friedrich Hayek). His book "Human Action" is considered by many to be the most complete exposition of the Austrian position.
