Please submit pages dealing with specific dialects of Spanish, or with Spanish dialects in general. Note that Spanish-based Creoles are not included here - they have their own category at: Science: Social Sciences: Language and Linguistics: Natural Languages: Pidgins and Creoles: Spanish Based. Note that Catalan and Galician, although members of the Romance family, are not dialects of Spanish, but separate languages, and the speech of the Aran Valley, close to Spain''s border with France, is a dialect of Occitan. Basque, of course, is also a separate language, and not part of the Indo-European family at all. Overseas (mostly Latin American) varieties of Spanish, insofar as they are not Creoles, should be included among Spanish dialects, on the other hand.
This cat should contain all linguistically related material on Asturian (also known as Bable), the native language of the Asturias region in northern Spain and some neighboring zones. Although many regard Asturian as a separate language, its overall similarity to standard Castilian, as well as its very limited use in education, government and the media, justify classifying it as a Spanish dialect.
