Equipment designed for use by professionals in the entertainment industry is different from that used by consumers in the home or car. It is typically of higher wattage, more robust construction, and has special features of use to professionals. There is little overlap between consumer and pro audio products.

For sites that do not do online sales, see the Business: Industries: Arts and Entertainment: Equipment: Audio category.

DJ

Disk Jockeys or DJs are entertainers who specialize in playing back pre-recorded music for dances and other special events. The art of the DJ lies in choosing music selections that will please a given audience, and in "mixing" to provide a pleasant interface between the songs. Some DJs also make announcements or remix (rearrange the contents of) songs as part of their show.

DJs use specialized equipment manufactured for their purposes. This includes turntables, CD players, mixers, and karaoke equipment. DJ equipment is typically more shock resistant than the consumer equivalents, as it is regularly transported and is used in high vibration situations. DJ equipment also includes special mixing and queuing capabilities not found in consumer equipment.

This category contains sites belonging to companies which do online sales of equipment for DJs including mixers, turntables, DJ CD players, amps, EQs, microphones, coffins and cases.

For sites that sell a broad range of pro audio equipment of which DJ gear is just a part, please submit to the parent category Shopping: Music: Equipment.

For equipment manufacturers, see Business: Industries: Arts and Entertainment: Equipment: Manufacturers: Audio: DJ.

For sites that do online sales of CDs, vinyl and other music recordings rather than DJ equipment, see Shopping: Entertainment: Recordings: Music.

For retailers who do not do online sales, DJ services, DJ personal sites and any other company whose services are limited to a particular geographical area, please find an appropriate subcategory under Regional.

For noncommercial sites related to the art of the DJ, please see Arts: Music: DJs.

Karaoke is an entertainment in which amateur performers sing popular songs to a pre-recorded accompaniment. This is typically, though not necessarily, done in a public place such as a night club.

Karaoke recordings are specially produced to include a variety of popular songs from which the lead vocals have been omitted. They come in a variety of formats including tape, CD, CD+G, and VCD.

Karaoke equipment is designed for the playback of karaoke recordings. It comes in a variety of formats and styles. There are professional and amateur grades of equipment; some are intended for use by professional KJs (karaoke jocks) in clubs while some are intended for personal practicing or in-home entertainment.

This category contains online dealers of karaoke related equipment and recordings. These companies sell karaoke players, discs, and accessories over the internet.

For companies that provide online sales of a variety of sound equipment not limited to karaoke gear, see Shopping: Music: Equipment.

For companies that provide local retail sales of karaoke equipment and/or offer KJ services but do not offer online sales, please find the appropriate Regional category.

For all other karaoke related sites please look for an appropriate sub-category of Arts: Music: Karaoke.

There are many parts in entertainment industry equipment that are too obscure to be generally available and must be purchased from a specialized dealer or manufacturer.
