African Americans have gone from being excluded from professional sports to dominating several of them. Our interest, in this History category, is less in the sports and more in the men and women who have affected history be their participation in them. As black men earned the respect of the powerful by their gallantry in the Armed Forces, so they earned the respect of the masses by their prowess on the court and in the ball diamond.
