Sites in this category provide information on the history, culture, language, and prominent people of the Otoe (also spelled Oto). The Otoe are often grouped linguistically and culturally with the Missouria, Ioway, and other Mississippian peoples. At the time of their contact with Lewis and Clark, the Otoe inhabited an area in what is now Nebraska. Following a series of treaties, the Otoe and Missouria tribes eventually accepted settlement on a reservation in Indian Territory. Today they remain a federally recognized tribe known as the Otoe-Missouria, based in Red Rock, Oklahoma.
