The Group of Eight (G8) is an association of the major industrialized democracies. Prior to the admission of the Russian Federation in 1998, the organization was referred to as the Group of Seven (G7). The G8 member nations are Canada , France , Germany , Italy , Japan , Russia , the United Kingdom and the United States . The European Union also attends the Summit , represented by the Leader of the country holding the Presidency of the European Council and the President of the European Commission.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) aims to support the international economy through the stablization of national currencies. It controls sizable reserves of currency, influences exchange rates, and provides temporary financial assistance to developing states.
The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) groups 30 member countries sharing a commitment to democratic government and the market economy. It helps governments to ensure the responsiveness of key economic areas with sectoral monitoring. The OECD produces internationally agreed instruments, decisions and recommendations to promote rules of the game in areas where multilateral agreement is necessary for individual countries to make progress in a globalised economy.
