This category is for sites on animal rights.

The difference between the Animal Welfare and Animal Rights movements are that the former criticizes cruelty but does not see meat-production, fishing, dairy farming or egg production, for example, as needless. Animal Rights, in contrast, asserts that animals are not merely subjects to be treated and disposed of at our whim, but that they are sentient creatures and deserve to live lives free from mental and emotional suffering as much as possible. Closely related philosophies surround vegetarianism and veganism.

Sites involving wildlife/human issues: hunting, shooting, fishing and habitat destruction.
Animal Rights Organizations are concerned with the abolition of the use of animals for the purposes of food, consumer items, experimentation and entertainment. They believe that these practices lie merely in tradition and that species membership is not morally relevant. Therefore, all sentient beings have fundamental rights that protect from oppression.

Animal Rights Organizations largely involve themselves in public awareness campaigns in an effort to promote veganism and expose many facets of animal cruelty rooted in generally accepted practices such as meat eating, and also lobby governments and corporations to instill change.
Please submit sites only for Animal RIGHTS organizations in this category. There is also an appropriate category for Animal WELFARE organizations at Society/Organizations/Animal_Welfare/. A brief outline of the differences between the AR and AW movements:

Welfare organizations concern themselves with the welfare, and humane treatment of animals that are affected by human needs, and generally focus on domestic animals. The welfarist accepts certain traditional attitudes that dictate that we as humans *own* animals, and so believe we should be responsible owners.

The Rights movement, on the other hand, argues that we do not have the right to own or enslave animals, and work towards abolition, or animal liberation.

There was the welfarist: ''We must treat our slaves with great kindness and compassion.''
''Nonsense!'', said the Abolitionists; ''we must liberate them! Even if their lives might sometimes become even harder, we must recognize that the entire institution is utterly immoral and must be abolished.'' -Dietrich von Haugwitz
