The Home/Family/Adoption category is the appropriate category for more general adoption sites (information, services, support, personal pages). Please take a look at the numerous subcategories and choose the most appropriate.

Adoption

Adoption issues can include, but are not limited to, open records, rights of adoptees, westernization of adoption, negativity surrounding adoption, and opposition to adoption.

This category only lists sites pertaining to the rights, issues and concerns involved in adoption.

Advocacy Groups

Primarily nonprofit organizations focused on advocacy work for children's safety, rights, wellness or well being.

To be listed in this category, an organization must focus on the root issues of self-esteem and confidence. For example, some might consider sports to be an empowering activity for girls, but a sports organization is only indirectly addressing this issue; it is not directly addressing the root issues of self-esteem and confidence. However, an organization could specialize in sports-related solutions yet still bring attention to and educate the community about the root problems of self-esteem and confidence; that organization might be appropriate for this category.

Child Abduction

Child abduction refers to a child (18 and under) who is abducted by a stranger or a non-custodial parent, acquaintance etc.

To avoid delay in listing, please review prior to submission.

Submit websites once to the most relevant category. Multiple submissions or careless submissions will slow the process. Review the sub-categories to find the most appropriate category for submissions. Find the lowest level category appropriate to the site being submitted. Sites under construction will not be listed and submissions will be deleted.

Descriptions should include specific information of the unique qualities and features of the site contents. Avoid advertising hype, overuse of capitalization, and emphatic punctuation. Do use the English language, proper grammar, and a spell-checker.

Affiliate sites, multiple URL''s for the same organization, and mirror sites are not desirable.

Non-English sites should be submitted to the proper language in World. Non-English sites will NOT be listed anywhere in the category.

Sites related to all forms of Child Abuse, Neglect and Prevention. Including false accusations, ritual abuse, sex offender registries and support links.

Submit web sites with information related to the impact of domestic violence on children.

Currently this category is undergoing some reorganization. However, submissions are always open throughout the Open Directory Project.

Please submit issues related to child care only. Any submissions relating to child care providers, services etc. should be submitted to appropriate Regional categories. IE: Child Care in Denver Colorado should be submitted to Regional/North America/United States/Colorado/Localities/D/Denver

Child Poverty

The Children's Rights Category focuses on the rights of children worldwide. It includes organizations who are working on behalf of children's rights as well as information documenting the status of children living in marginal conditions and children's rights violations.

Sites submitted to this category may include national and international organizations working on behalf of children''s rights, information, data and research on rights violations and general information on the status of children worldwide. Sites may include photographic essays documenting the life experience and living conditions of children as well as historical perspectives on children''s rights.

Child Support

This category is for sites dealing with economic, social, psychological, or policy issues associated with child support. Sites which advertise third-party collection agencies should be submitted to: Business/Financial_Services/Credit_and_Collection/Collection_Services/Child_Support. A site dealing exclusively with one's own experience with child support (and not general issues) should be submitted to the personal homepages category.

Society/Issues/Child_Support

A regional listing would be appropriate for information about a support group that primarily is about when and where a group meets in person.

Corporal Punishment

Sites arguing for or against allowing corporal punishment for children, which is defined as disciplining children by means of physically smacking or hitting, with hands or with objects.

Submit issue-oriented sites about the paddling, flogging, spanking, or similar punishment of children in the family, school, or similar settings.

Foster Care

Foster care issues can include, but are not limited to, abuse, rights of foster parents and foster children, and negativity surrounding foster care.

This category only lists sites pertaining to the rights, issues and concerns involved in foster care.

The Home/Family/Foster_Care category is the appropriate category for more general foster care sites (agencies, information, services, support, personal pages, etc.).

Parents' Rights

This category deals with the rights, duties and responsibilities of parents concerning their children. The focus is on the parental side of the relationship. The basis for these rights are set out in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. The parental aspect in upholding children's rights under the convention is the central concept of this category. Similar rights of other family members and caregivers are also included. Problems with Child Protection Services and foster caregivers are also relevant, as are custody, guardianship and child support issues.

Service Organizations

Sites relating to public and private human service, social service and child placement agencies for children and youth involved in the social service and human service systems.

Please submit only service organizations that have a large area of impact (several states, nationwide, multi-national, etc.). If the area of impact is local, please submit to the regional locality where the service is headquartered.
