Methodism began as a movement within the Church of England which grew up under the leadership of John and Charles Wesley. Beginning with the Methodist Episcopal Church of the United States, the movement gradually took independence from the Anglican Communion. Methodism can now be found throughout the world in various forms.
Please submit only sites that address historical aspects of Methodism or the various denominations that have merged with Methodist denominations. If the latter, please verify that the denomination is not listed with others in its family before submitting here.
The Evangelical United Brethren Church (EUB) was formed in 1946 by the merger of The Church of the United Brethren in Christ and the Evangelical Church. In 1968, the EUB in the US merged with the Methodist Church to form the United Methodist Church (US). The Canadian EUB merged with the United Church of Canada that same year.
EUB congregations that chose not to participate in the 1968 mergers reformed as the Evangelical Church. In 1993, the Evangelical Church in Canada and the Missionary Church of Canada merged to form the Evangelical Missionary Church of Canada.
