Although Charles Wesley shared in much of the evangelistic, theological, and scholarly work of his brother John -- so much so that it is sometimes difficult to distinguish between their contributions -- his main fame today is as the hymnwriter. He wrote over 8000 hymns and published over 5000, of which hundreds passed into wide use within the Methodist movement and beyond.
