Jujutsu

Jujutsu is the traditional martial art of the Samurai of Japan. It's focus is on using an opponent's energy against him/herself. Characterized by throws, joint locks, and sword techniques, Jujutsu is also the predecessor to Aikido and Judo.

Aikido

Aikido is a modern, Japanese martial art that incorporates techniques and motions from Jujutsu as well as sword and spear forms.

The ideal goal is to resolve conflict, but practitioners fill the spectrum from "very new-age spiritualistic pacifists" to "conflict is resolved when my opponent can hear nothing but the pain screaming from every broken part of his body."

Aiki Jutsu

As there are many Aikido organizations, styles, branches, and groups, there are arts related to Aikido. Many of these have a direct relations to Aikido development. Others developed in parallel. Others are just related in name. The most common names for these arts are Aiki Jutsu and Aiki Jujutsu.

Danzan Ryu

Danzan Ryu (which essential means Hawaiian style) was founded some time in 1917 by Henry Seishiro Okazaki. He developed the system by combining from various forms of Jujutsu, Okinawan Karate, and the knife techniques of the Philippines.

Judo

This category relates to the martial art and sport of judo. All lnks should be placed in the lower level cats according to type. Schools are related geographically under Organizations. The only link listed in the main category is that of the Kodokan founded by Jigor Kano Sensei.

Any thing else is by definition suited best for the Information category.

This category is for schools as well as training and instructional programs which are of a general aspect to Jiu Jitsu.

Please submit only schools that teach a specific Jiujitsu style for which no category exists or more than one style of Jiu Jitsu/Jujutsu.

Small Circle

The origins of Small Circle Jujitsu are based on the 2,000 year old classical jujitsu, but the revelation of the small circle emphasis dates back to approximately 1944. The founder, Professor Wally Jay, studied a style known as Kodenkan Jujitsu from Professor Henry S. Okazaki in Hawaii. Professor Okazaki had studied classical jujutsu styles of yoshin, kosagabe and iwaga, as well as studying Okinawan karate, Filipino knife fighting, Hawaiian lua, the art of throwing a Spanish dirk, boxing, wrestling and kung fu. Professor Okazaki was somewhat of a rebel, as he broke away from tradition on several occasions. He developed his own style of jujitsu called Kodenkan Jujitsu, as well as teaching non-Japanese, which was unheard of.
