This category deals with Accrington Football Club (1876 to 1896). In the season 1892/93 they finished fifteenth and were relegated after losing a test match game against Sheffield United. They resigned from the league rather than play in the second division. The club should not be confused with two later clubs, Accrington Stanley (1891) and Accrington Stanley. There is no connection between the three clubs.

They played in The Football League from 1921 until 1962, when they became only the second club ever to resign from the Football League in mid-season. The club went into liquidation in 1966. They should not be confused with the later club of the same name, Accrington Stanley, nor with Accrington, who were one of the original twelve founder members of The Football League. There is no connection between the three clubs.
