Freediving refers to breathold diving. Freedivers can be pure breathold divers, spearfishermen (done on breathold), abaloners (harvesting abalones on breathold). The name refers to anyone who dives on breathold. Freediving is not the same as snorkeling. Snorkelling is done from the surface and does not include any serious breathold.

Underwater Hockey is a fast paced sport played on the bottom of a pool using a mask, snorkel and fins (not SCUBA gear). Players advance the puck, pass the puck, and curl with the puck using a stick (or "bat"), usually held with a protective glove. Each side defends a goal, located at the bottom of one end of the playing area, into which the opposing team seeks to flick the puck. Players choose when they must breathe and when they must play; since there is no air at the bottom where the game is played, teamwork and timing are critical.

Sites listed here will focus on the sport of underwater hockey. Examples: club home pages, tournament information pages, and advice on rules and tactics.

Snorkelling is a sporting activity involving a snorkel, mask, fins and usually weights. The snorkeller fins around on the surface with their head immersed in the water, watching the underwater world beneath through their mask and breathing through their snorkel tube. If they spot anything of interest, they take a breath and dive down to investigate.
