Laura Nyro was born born Laura Nigro on October 18, 1947 in The Bronx, New York City. She was a singer, songwriter, and pianist. She died April 8, 1997 at age 49 from ovarian cancer. While she was a popular singer, most of her career success came from others who sang her songs, including "Eli's Comin'", "And When I Die", "Wedding Bell Blues", "Stoned Soul Picnic", and "Stoney End".
