Twentieth century English composer Sir Arnold Edward Trevor Bax (1883-1953) gained popularity with the public as he moved away from chromatic composition into music influenced by a love for things Irish. This change came in large part because of reading the works of W. B. Yeats. Bax wrote seven symphonies and scored motion pictures, including Oliver Twist. Two noted pieces are the Celtic-influenced tone poems Garden of Fand and Tintagel.
