American composer Harold Blumenfeld ((1923-) entered a period of sustained compositional effort only after 1970. Prior to that time, he devoted much of his energy to teaching at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri and directing first the Opera Theatre of St. Louis and, later, the Washington University Opera Studio.
