Vitezslav Novak (1870-1949) was accepted as both a law and a music student. Choosing the latter (and persuading his widowed mother that this was a better choice), he became one of the last great Czech Romantic composers. He succeeded Dvorák as the Prague Conservatory's professor of composition.
