American composer Terry Riley (1935-) studied composition at San Francisco State College with Robert Erikson and attended graduate school at the University of California at Berkeley. There he met and connected with fellow composition student La Monte Young, whom some argue is the true "Father of Minimalism." His In C was a landmark of Minimalist composition.
