Sir Derek Jacobi has the honor of being the only other person besides Laurence Olivier to be knighted twice. Jacobi is both a knight of the UK and of Denmark. This venerated actor is mostly known for his stage work but his roles on television and film are enduring ones.
American audience first came to know of him in the Masterpiece Theater production I, Claudius based on the books by Robert Graves. He played the title role of Claudius - the overlooked, stuttering, earnest and good hearted scholar who against all predictions and inclinations becomes the Emperor of Rome itself. The series has a devoted following even after so many years.
In 1997, Jacobi took up the mantle of Brother Cadfael. Cadfael was the creation of mystery writer Ellis Peters. PBS aired the stories of the sleuthing Benedicting monk as part of its Mystery lineup.
