Sir Laurence Olivier - british actor, born 22nd May 1907, Dorking, Surrey, died 11th July 1989, Steyning, West Sussex, from complications from a muscle disorder. Distinguished British stage actor whose film appearances were reasonably frequent. Received an honorary Oscar in 1979 for th broad range of his work, and his unique achievements. Films include Wuthering Heights (1939) as Heathcliff, Pride and Prejudice (1940) as Mr. Darcy, Othello (1965), Lady Caroline Lamb (1972), Bounty, The (1984). He married the actress Vivien Leigh after falling in love with her during their film together Fire Over England (1937). During their two decade marriage Olivier and Leigh appeared on the stage in England and America and made several films together.
