June Whitfield - British comedienne/actress, born 11th November 1925, London. She was awarded the O.B.E. (Officer of the British Empire) in 1985, and C.B.E. (Companion of the British Empire) in 1998. She had had a long career in radio and television, starting in 1953 with the BBC radio program 'Take it From Here', with Jimmy Edwards and Dick Bentley. She was the original voice of 'Eth' in 'The Glums', and the nurse trying to extract blood from Tony Hancock. June has appeared in four 'Carry On' films, and in the film dramatisation of Thomas Hardy's book - 'Jude' (1996). Probably best known now as Edina's mother in the BBC TV comedy series 'Absolutely Fabulous'.
