Cavedog Entertainment was a label created in 1996 by Humongous Entertainment, a division of GT Interactive, then known for its children's educational titles, in order to release more mainstream games. After the release of the Total Annihilation series of games, GT Interactive and all its properties were acquired by Infogrames, which later acquired the rights to the name Atari and currently functions under that name.
