The Scouting movement began in 1907 with an experimental camp held by Lord Robert Baden-Powell on Brownsea Island.
Upon publication of the book Scouting for Boys the movement immediately began to grow. Within a short time girls became involved so the Girl Scouts and Girl Guides were formed. Sea Scouting soon followed.
Today Scouting is the largest youth movement in the world with approximately 50 million scouts and guides.
