Off the westernmost coast of Japan, is an island called Gunkanjima, or Battleship island, that is hardly known even to the Japanese. In 1974 the mining closed and the island become totally deserted.
Haikyo (廃虚) is a word that means ruins in Japanese. The word also describes the hobby, known in English as urban exploration (urbex). You'll find here information about the haikyo I visit, along with photos, facts and interesting links.
