The Galgo Espanol, or Spanish Greyhound, is an ancient breed, mentioned in writings by Romans in the first and second centuries. The dog was used by farmers for guarding and hunting and by Spanish nobility for coursing. More recently, the breed was used for professional racing. To improve its racing abilities, it was crossed with imported Greyhounds, producing the Galgo Ingles-Espanol. Fanciers have preserved the original breed, which is recognized by the FCI.
The Galgo Espanol looks very much like a Greyhound, although it is smaller and sturdier.
