The Boxer, a German breed, was developed by crossing the Brabanter Bullenbeißer and the English Bulldog. The Bullenbeißer, also a Molosser, was used over the centuries as a big game hunter, a butcher's dog, and finally a family guardian. In 1895, the founders of the Boxer breed formed the Boxer-Klub in Munich.
The Boxer is playful, sociable especially with children, loyal, and cautious with strangers. Lean and muscular, the Boxer stands 21-25" tall and weighs 53-70 pounds.
