This section lists software platforms dedicated to managing and delivering online web courses. They also known as Learning Management Systems (LMSes), Virtual Learning Environments (VLEs), or simply "courseware". They mainly focus on higher education. These platforms enable teachers/institutions to create web sites with functions such as:
  • authentication (of learners and staff)
  • integrated communication facilities (mainly asynchronous but also synchronous)
  • integrated quiz engines
  • management and publishing of resources
  • tracking and reporting of student activities
  • delivery of training material
They are not just authoring tools. The content is often created with external software.
