Changnyeong County is located in central Gyeongnam, along the Nakdong River. It adjoins Gyeongbuk province on the north. Within Gyeongnam province, it shares borders with the counties of Uiryeong, Hapcheon, and Haman, and the cities of Miryang and Changwon.
