The county covers an area of 4807 km² and has approximately 92,000 inhabitants. The county is divided in 20 municipalities:
  • 2 urban municipalities (Estonian: linnad): Pärnu, and Sindi.
  • 18 rural municipalities (Estonian: vallad): Are, Audru, Halinga, Häädemeeste, Kaisma, Kihnu, Koonga, Paikuse, Saarde, Sauga, Surju, Tahkuranna, Tootsi, Tori, Tõstamaa, Varbla, Vändra alev, and Vändra.
In 2013 Lavassaare was merged with Audru municipality.
