Crediton, population 7000, is the next town to the north west of Exeter, served by the A377 to Chulmleighand North Devon.
The town is administered within Mid Devon County Council by the town council. This category represents the town and the parish of Crediton Hamlets, which surrounds the town to the east, south and west. The latter extends to the Mid Devon parishes of Cheriton Bishop to the south, Hittisleigh to the south west, Colebrooke to the west, Copplestone to the north west, Sandford to the north, Upton Hellions and Shobrooke to the north east, and Newton St Cyres to the east. Teignbridge parishes such as Tedburn St Mary and Whitestone lie to the south.
