North Molton is an inland parish in the western edge of Exmoor, and is administered by North Devon District Council. It is south of the parish of Brayford, east of East Buckland and Filleigh, north of the town of South Molton and the parish of Bishop's Nympton.  Twitchen is a small parish to the east, which has the postal address of North Molton, and like North Molton has its north east boundary within the Exmoor National Park, and borders Somerset.

The village of North Molton is to the east of the National Park boundary, though this category includes sites for moorland farms and dwellings north of the A361 up to North Molton Ridge, and the Sportman Inn, at Sandyway Cross, as far north as Whitefield Down.
