Christchurch, with  Highcliffe represents the eastern area of  Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole unitary authority.
Christchurch was established at the confluence of the Rivers Avon from Hampshire and Wiltshire,
and Stour which rises north of  Gillingham.
The main conurbation of Christchurch is on the north bank of the harbour, with its entrance
from the the east protected from the English Channel south by Hengistbury Head.
On the east bank of the Avon, Winkton is a hamlet in the north of Christchurch district, which with Burton village,
both east of the B3347, together combine as the parish of Burton and Winkton.
On the west bank of the Avon, Jumpers Common is a residential area of Christchurch, served by the A338 from
the north, via the combined parish of  St Leonards and St Ives.
Ferndown Town parish is north of the BCP boundary, and Bournemouth International Airport is south of this
in the parish of  Hurn, mainly west of the A338.
The main conurbation of  Bournemouth is directly west of the Stour.
