Motcombe is a village and North Dorset parish, immediately north west of  Shaftesbury, with  Gillingham and 
East Stour to the west, and south east of  Silton.
The eastern parish boundary is with the county of Wiltshire at the combined parish of  Sedgehill and Semley south of  Mere.
Hills in the east of the parish enclose the village in the eastern edge of the Blackmore Vale.
The River Lodden forms the northern parish boundary, as it flows south west to join the Stour, south of Gillingham.
