Shapwick is a village on the north bank of the River Stour, down stream from Spetisbury represented by  Charlton Marshall to the west.
Tarrant Keyneston is to the north west, and  Sturminster Marshall is across the Stour to the south.
Shapwick parish is separated from  Wimborne Minster to the east by Pamphill, which extends northwards on the
west bank of the River Allen upstream to  Witchampton.
