Newport is the county town of the Isle of Wight.
The town is situated slightly to the north of the centre of the island, at the head of the navigable section of the River Medina,
which flows northward to the Solent, and on which the town has a quay.
The built-up area of Newport includes (anti-clockwise from the west bank of the Medina in the north),
Lower St Cross, Parkhurst, Hunny Hill, the Parkhurst, Albany and Camp Hill Prisons, Forest Side, Gunville,
Carisbrooke, Clatterford, Shide, Barton, Staplers, and Cross Lane.
