rthe  South Norfolk District, and lies within the  National Park Broads Authority.
Once the seat of King Edmund of East Anglia, the marshland has been drained, and embankments ensure the River Yare is navigable from  Norwich 12 miles in the east, to  Great Yarmouth District.
A swing bridge, allows the railway to cross into Suffolk, but road traffic needs to cross upstream by ferry.
