Marlborough is a market town on the River Kennet, where the old main road from London to Bath, the A4, crosses this river.
East/west road traffic has been diverted to the M4 motorway north of Marlborough Downs.
The A346 takes road traffic from junction 15 of the M4, on the course of a Roman road over the downs, at  Ogbourne St George.
The Roman road approached the Kennet over Poulton Downs at Mildenhall, a parish to the east of the town,
which includes the hamlet of Stitchcombe, where websites are included here.
The Kennet is bridged by minor roads from Mildenhall and Stitchcombe before Axford in  Ramsbury parish further east.
Mildenhall's southern boundary includes the A4 before it leaves Wiltshire at  Froxfield.
Savernake is immediately south where the A346 continues south to  Burbage.
To the south west, the A345 takes road traffic through  Oare.
The Preshute White Horse is within the Marlborough parish boundary south of the Kennet, south west of the town,
facing Preshute parish which is north west of the town.
Manton is a village south of the A4 and River Kennet, west of the town, before Fyfield parish, represented by  Lockeridge.
