Protaras is located on the south east coast of Cyprus. Until 1974, like Ayia Napa, it was little more than a sleepy fishing village. However, the expansion of the tourist industry south from Famagusta has seen a vast increase in development over the last few years. The village of Pernera is also included within this category.
