Chapala is a town on the north shore of Lake Chapala in the state of Jalisco, Mexico. The town of Chapala is the "seat" of the "Municipio" (roughly analogous to an American county) of Chapala. Thus Chapala is a local center for commerce, banking and government but is but is also popular with weekenders, tourists, "snow birds", and foreign retirees.
