Campo lies in southwestern San Diego County, 40 miles east of San Diego, just a mile north of the Mexican border. Its name comes from the Spanish word for "field." Its population, including surrounding areas, is 3,122, according to the 2000 census figures for the Campo ZIP code, 91906.
