Santa Ysabel is a rural community founded in the early 1800's by Spanish Catholic missionaries as an outpost from Mission San Diego. It lies in the center of San Diego County, approximately 50 miles from San Diego. Its population, including surrounding areas, is 1,141, according to the 2000 census figures for the Santa Ysabel ZIP code, 92070.
