Delray Beach is located in Palm Beach County along the southeast Florida coast, part of an urban corridor stretching from Miami to West Palm Beach. The corridor is split by the Intracoastal Waterway. Like its southern neighbor, Boca Raton, Delray Beach includes land on both sides of the waterway. The small residential community of Highland Beach is tucked between Delray and Boca on the beach side of the waterway. To the north, on the inland side is the city of Boynton Beach while on the beach side are the communities of Gulf Stream, Briny Breezes and Ocean Ridge.
