The second largest island in the Hawaiian archipelago, Maui, nicknamed "the Valley Isle," is home to more than 140,000 people. Hawaiians say, "Maui No Ka Oi" which means "Maui is the best". A popular vacation spot, Maui is famous for its spectacular beauty, ranging from the tropical rainforests along the road to Hana, to the summit of Haleakala, the world's largest dormant volcano. It boasts many world-class resorts and golf courses, and is the unofficial "windsurfing capital of the world."
Governmentally, the County of Maui encompasses the islands of Kaho`olawe, Lana`i, and Moloka`i in addition to Maui.
