Zip code 03909. Located 40 miles from Portland. Settled 1624. Originally called Agamenticus. Established in 1641 with a city charter and government by Sir Ferdinando Gorges and named Gorgeana. Considered the first English city on the continent of America. It was reorganized in 1642 into a town renamed York. Area is rich with early colonial history.
