Boston is a city in Suffolk County and the capital of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in the United States. It is also the largest city in the New England region with an area: 48 square miles / 124 square kilometers and population of 600,000 in the city and 3.2 million in the metropolitan area. It is a relatively compact city and most of the major places of interest are within walking distance of each other. A few of the city's nicknames include: The City on a Hill, Beantown, and The Hub.

Because of the city's prominent role in the American Revolution, several historic sites relating to that period are preserved as part of the Boston National Historical Park.

Boston is home to several world-renowned museums, including the Museum of Fine Arts, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, and the Museum of Science. The University of Massachusetts campus at Columbia Point houses the John F. Kennedy Library. The New England Aquarium, Franklin Park Zoo, Boston Athenaeum (one of the oldest independent libraries in the United States), and the Boston Children's Museum are located within the city.

The city also hosts well known sports teams that include the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, Boston Celtics and the Boston Bruins.
