Newton is a city (population approximately 83,000), located just west of Boston, in Middlesex County in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Established as a town in 1691, and incorporated as a city in 1873, Newton is composed of 12 to 14 (depending on which source you believe) "villages" or neighborhoods. Sources agree on the following neighborhoods: Auburndale, Lower Falls, Newton Centre, Newton Corner, Newton Highlands, Newtonville, Nonantum, Oak Hill, Upper Falls, Waban and West Newton, and a part of Chestnut Hill, although Chestnut Hill is considered a separate locality in this directory. Most people also include Thompsonville, raising the total to 13, and many also add Four Corners or Oak Hill Park to reach 14.
